About This Resource
A new classroom resource developed with pupils in Wales
Our KS2 resource pack invites pupils to step into the shoes of decision-makers and explore what a healthier, safer Wales could look like. Developed with pupils at Llanyrafon Primary School, the pack reflects the issues children are genuinely noticing in their own communities from vape litter on footpaths to sweet-looking devices designed to attract young eyes.
This exciting resource transforms your classroom into a Mini Senedd, where pupils become committee members, investigate real-world evidence and work together to create their own message for Wales.
Explores themes at the heart of current discussions in Wales about children’s health and safer communities (tobacco and vapes bill).
The resource includes:
- Full teacher-led lesson plan for Years 3-6, with clear timings and guidance.
- Three themed committee packs (Health, Environment, Community) filled with child-friendly facts, images and prompts.
- Starter games such as “Guess the Mess”, “Cigarette Chemistry” and “Butt Busters” to spark curiosity and set the scene.
- Mini Senedd debate activity, where pupils choose the ideas they feel matter most for children growing up in Wales.
- Creative poster challenge, allowing each team to set out its hopes for a Smoke-Free Wales.
- Printable certificates so every pupil leaves as an official member of the Smoke-Free Squad.

Who can use it?
- Primary schools across Wales ideal for PSHE, Health & Wellbeing, Eco Committees, School Councils or themed project weeks.
- Youth groups or community clubs working with KS2-aged children.
- Teachers wanting a ready-made, high-engagement session with no specialist equipment needed.
How schools can get involved:
Schools can download the pack for free and run the session at any time. Once your Mini Senedd has created its posters, you can:
- Share photos with ASH Wales to add your pupils’ ideas to our national map of children’s voices.
- Showcase the posters in school to spark wider conversations.
- Take part in future opportunities, including sharing messages with policymakers working on a healthier Wales.
This resource gives children a real platform – a chance to think about what matters to them and to see that their voices matter.

Every poster helps show what children want for their future: clean air, safe spaces, and a Wales where harmful products aren’t designed or sold in ways that affect them.
