Wow – we’re blown away by the support for No Smoking Day 2025!
Together with Public Health Wales, we shared a powerful message: one cigarette takes 20 minutes off your life 0 time that could be spent on your health, your family, or doing what you love.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of schools, youth groups, health professionals, charities, and communities across Wales, this year’s campaign was one of our most impactful yet. Over 3,800 bilingual resource packs were distributed, more than 120 organisations took part, and the campaign reached over 1.3 million people.
Thank you for making every minute count.
We asked 7-year-old Bobby from Cwmbran what he thinks about No Smoking Day.Â
Denise, a Cardiff resident, smoked 40 cigarettes a day for over 50 years. On last year’s No Smoking Day, she decided to quit. Now, a year later, she’s celebrating the life-changing impact of that decision.
Recent research from University College London (UCL) found that each cigarette smoked reduces life expectancy by an average of 20 minutes. That means a pack of 20 cigarettes can take nearly seven hours off a person’s life.
But the good news? Quitting smoking gives that time back.
Within just 20 minutes of quitting, the body starts to heal—heart rate returns to normal, circulation improves, and oxygen levels increase. The sooner you stop smoking, the more time you regain to spend on the things that matter—your health, your family, and your future.
Be the support people need on their journey to quit smoking. Encourage small wins and celebrate their progress while sharing resources like Help Me Quit Wales or our downloadable guides. Stay patient and positive—they’ll rely on your encouragement to overcome challenges. Together, we can create a smoke-free future.

For 40 years, No Smoking Day has helped people across Wales take a stand against smoking and move towards a healthier future. Since it began, smoking rates have dropped from 33% in 1984 to just 13% today—a huge step forward. But smoking still remains the leading cause of preventable illness and death in Wales, and thousands of people continue to battle nicotine addiction.
This No Smoking Day, we’re inviting everyone to take action and make every minute count.
