Vapes with screens, games or shapes that look like other objects

Why we’re flagging this: Some vapes are starting to look less like vapes and more like gadgets, toys or everyday objects.

Last checked: 30 September 2026

What kinds of products are being seen?

UK Government consultation material describes vapes with digital screens that can show images or videos. Some devices can include interactive features such as games.

Government material has also described vapes made to resemble other objects, including game devices, drink cans and toys.

Why does this matter?

A vape that looks like a gadget or another everyday item may be harder for parents, teachers and youth workers to spot.

Appearance alone is not a reliable way to identify what a device is.

What don’t we know?

We do not have a reliable Wales-wide figure showing how common screen, game-enabled or novelty-shaped vapes are among young people.

What should you do if you find an unfamiliar device?

Do not dismantle or test it. Focus on what happened, whether anyone is unwell and what support is needed. Follow your setting’s safeguarding or incident process.
