Product Watch roundup · 29 October 2026

Nicotine products are changing in ways that can make them less familiar. We’ve added several formats to ASH Wales Product Watch to help people across our communities recognise them and understand what is known.

Pouchless nicotine pods: a UK-facing listing

These small, soft oral portions contain nicotine but have no outer fleece pouch. The manufacturer says they do not melt in the mouth. They are different from vape pods and dissolvable strips. We have verified a UK-facing retail listing, but not sales or use in Wales.

International formats on our radar

Ultra-thin nicotine pouches: ZAR markets a compressed pouch less than 1 mm thick. It is designed to be removed after use. Manufacturer descriptions do not establish independent evidence of safety or uptake.

Semi-gel nicotine pouches: changes to the material inside a pouch offer another format to recognise. Claims about delivery or other benefits need independent evidence.

Gels, creams, sprays and nasal inhalers: our updated explainer separates formats being discussed from a verified international consumer mouth-spray example. These products should not be assumed to be licensed nicotine replacement treatments.

UK or Welsh availability has not been established for these international examples. Their inclusion is an early intelligence signal, not evidence that they are widespread in Wales.

Why does this matter?

Knowing what a product is can support informed conversations in families, community groups, education, health and other settings. Each alert explains what we know, what we do not know and why the development may matter to Wales.
